I've been on the hunt to diversify my reading for years. I didn't just want to read more BIPOC or LGBTQIA. I also wanted to read more translated works and found a BookTube challenge "Reading Around the World". I absolutely love that they set it up for the full year. Instead of running out to try and find the book when everyone else is trying to (ala Reese, Jenna, Oprah), many of these books are older, originally written in another language, but also potentially difficult to find at a library for that reason, rather than because everyone else was borrowing them with incredibly long waitlists.
I loved Zerán's writing style, the thrills, how she explains everything through the eyes of Estela, the maid. The narrator's voice and how she portrayed Estela reminded me very much of Dania Ramirez in Devious Maids. The thrill was on par as well. It was a Chilean Devious Maids. I loved that show.
This is also a great reminder that there's always someone watching. Someone always sees.
