Getting through May was rough, but I nearly made it. I just can't seem to sit down and read Timeline.
May Wrap Up
I finished reading The Maid by Nita Prose and Dread Nation by Justina Ireland.
I DNF'd Forged by Iron by Eric Schumacher and Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley.
I yet again never got around to reading Timeline by Michael Crichton.
I had to go back one space.
The Rolls
The first roll was a 2, landing on Grey - Previous Year TBR. About here I recalled that I did not move the Goddess Calypso (anti-audiobook), and managed to push her way up towards the end of the board. Suweet. Back to my first roll, I pulled out a book I've already read and tossed the slip. Then I pulled out The Hanging City by Charlie N Holmberg. I picked it up on Kindle Unlimited. I really hope I like her writing style as there are quite a few more of her books in my TBR list.
The second roll was a 4, landing on Yellow - Thriller. The first draw was a book I couldn't get through my library or in an otherwise free access. My second pick was thankfully a Nadia Stafford by Kelley Armstrong book. I was able to pick up Book 1, Exit Strategy through my library on the Hoopla app. Armstrong is one of my favorite Canadian authors of all time, already having read her Middle Grade Percy Jackson style series under the penname KL Armstrong with MA Marr called The Blackwell Pages. For those interested, it is based in Norse mythology and Ragnorok, but since I have not yet read Riordan's Norse-based Middle Grade series, I cannot compare the two. I've also read all 13 books of The Otherworld Series, and the Young Adult Age of Legends trilogy.
The third roll was a 6, putting me on Black - This Year TBR. There are quite a few not-yet-published books in this group, but I managed to pull out The Deep by Alma Katsu. I have not yet read any of this US author's work, but the summaries of every one I've looked at so far sound really good. I picked it up through my library on the Libby app.
The fourth and final roll was a 4 again, for the first time this year getting me a Purple - Mystery pick. Mystery was my favorite genre as a kid and I feel like I haven't read a lot of them in several years. I drew out The Secrets of Harwood Hall by Katie Lumsden from the UK.
Other TBR Books This Month
My Amazon First Reads Pick this month is Sorry for the Inconvenience by Farah Naz Rishi. Whenever one of Mindy's Book Studio books is listed in Amazon First Reads, I snatch it up. Still haven't finished any of them, but I will support these voices any way I can.
My Audible Credit Pick this month is Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett. I honestly do not remember how it got on my Audible Wishlist or on my TBR, but that's what the Wheel of Names spinner picked, so there we go.
Yes, I still have CR McCormack's I Think My Neighbour's a Mobster and Bathed in the Blood of Ravens by RL Parker. I didn't pick them up once. I am a bad Author's Friend.
I am also still reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King, but I am over 50% of the way through
I was flipping through eBooks that I own in Kindle early this morning because I didn't feel like reading any of my in progress books in the moment. I picked up Friends in Napa by Shiela Yasmin Marikar, a previous Amazon First Reads and a Mindy's Book Studio. Thus far, I keep feeling like the characters are out of touch with reality, but then again, I've never been rich and certainly cannot just get on a plane and fly to Napa.
I'm also making my way through Season 2 of Audible's Moriarty starring an ensemble cast headlined by Dominic Monaghan and Phil LaMarr. I love that Audible is bringing back the old radio style drama programs.
Let's see how far I get in June!
