May 2024 TBR Busterland

After taking April off because, well life, May's Busterland rolls were a treat.

March/April WrapUp

I finished reading It Will End Like This by Kyra Leigh and The Glass Sentence by SE Grove.

I started reading I Think My Neighbour's a Mobster by CR McCormack.

I never got around to reading Timeline by Michael Crichton.

I had to go back one space.

The Rolls

The first roll was a 1, so right back onto Science Fiction Green I plopped. Timeline went right back on the TBR. I purchased a 1999 copy from eBay in September 2021. It is missing its dust jacket, but I love the look and feel of the pages. The pages are porous and yellowing beautifully. I swear I will read it this month, or at least start it!

The second roll was a 5, landing on Romance/Literary Red. It took 3 slip draws to find a book I could actually get my mitts on with free access through my library. I picked up Forged by Iron in the Olaf's Saga series by Eric Schumacher through the Hoopla app.

The third roll was also a 5, putting me on Western/Horror Orange. This is my smallest batch of TBR slips, but I pulled out Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I purchased a brand new copy of the Flame Tree Collector's Edition of Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus & Other Tales from my local Half Priced Books, also in September of 2021.

The fourth and final roll was a 3, landing me for the first time on a Black square. Black represents the Current Year's TBR and I pulled out Dread Nation by Justina Ireland. Post Civil War meets "The Walking Dead"? Sign me up! Picked it up through my library and the Libby app.

Other TBR Books This Month

My Amazon First Reads Pick this month is The Curious Secrets of Yesterday by Namrata Patel. I've never read one of these First reads picks during the month that I got it, so we'll see how this goes.

My Audible Credit Pick this month is Tasting Red by Holly Roberds. Since I also returned 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami that I DNF'd, I used my returned credit to get The Keeper of Happy Endings by Barbara Davis. Remember that if you DNF a title, you can return it during the first year and get your credit back! Don't wait for after that though, otherwise you're stuck with it. (And why I still have The Count of Monte Cristo as read by Bill Homewood. What a bore!)

I still have some in process books I am reading, namely McCormack's I Think My Neighbour's a Mobster and Bathed in the Blood of Ravens by RL Parker. As some may know, Parker's novel is being spread out over the whole year so that hopefully the next work is available for publication somewhat soonish after I finish.

I also keep coming across The Maid by Nita Prose every where I look. It's simple bright red cover draws the eye. I found it for a Lucky Pick through my library on the Libby app and snatched it up. I've read it. Review to come when I get caught up on April's and May's reviews.

Over-Planned

I am fully aware I have overstuffed this month. This blog post comes halfway through the month and I've only fully finished one book.

In my defense, I've also been Alpha Reading/Dev Editing and writing my own stories, being a mom to an adult child and 5 feline terr0r!sts, furthered my relationship with one of my long-lost adult children, turned 44, had a very active March, participated in my crew's Taco Tuesdays on TikTok, and worked a full time job, for which I was recently put on my first project team...

I also cut significantly back on my normal 2 liters of Dr. Pepper a day to no more than 2 liters of Dr. Pepper a week. I know. I'm crazy, but I swear I'm not insane.

Good thing there's not a Mr. or Mrs. Royal Pinkness! They'd never have any time with me.
