If you found my blog from BookTok, welcome to my other corner of the world that no one ever reads.
If you found yourself here by another means, I spend a lot of my time on BookTok. You should come hang out some time.
What I want to talk about today is my good friend Julie DeFisher's Weekly Writing Prompt Released Every Sunday on her TikTok channel.
Author Julie DeFisher
Julie DeFisher is the author of Destined for More, the first book in the 4 Queens for 4 Kings series. She also happens to be one of my best friends and has helped me diagnose/fix two vehicles and a shower. Drove 7 1/2 hours to do so. She's the type of friend who will do anything for those she loves.
Weekly Writing Prompt
For the New Year, she resolved to releasing a writing prompt each week. Viewers have all week to work on the prompt as much or as little as they can or want. She herself limits her writing on it to 45 minutes each day Monday through Friday, as a way to start her brain juices flowing each morning.
Going Live
On Saturday nights, at 7:30 pm Central, she goes live and we share it out, get situated, shoot the breeze until around 8 pm. We start the Weekly Writing Prompt by Julie reading the prompt out again. Then we all share.
Join Us!
Anyone who has a work based on the prompt they would like to read is welcome into a box. If someone is not comfortable reading aloud or cannot go live is welcome to contact Julie and provide her with the work prior to the live.
Designated Reader
As the designated reader, I do not read the works provided to me ahead of time. Julie sends me the works, keeping those who wish to be unknown anonymous. It's between you and Julie. Because I read them live, my reactions are real time and honest. Do not expect any level of great voice acting here. I literally cannot do voices. I do enjoy reading stories aloud however. I hope I give them just the right amount of gravitas necessary.
At the end of the live, Julie releases the next prompt, filming a video that can be referenced later on Sunday afternoon.
Please consider joining us as we break through writer's block, encourage new writers, discover new genres we are good at writing, and be the tide that lifts other ships.
Plagiarism is Not Tolerated
We are aware of other creators' lives encountering submitted works that are altered version of works that do not belong to those who submitted them. While we do not currently believe that our current audience would do such a thing, promoting this among people who we may not know could open us up to our own issues with this. If this happens we will run it through a plagiarism checker and may have to enforce a cut off time for submission.
Since our aim is to write works based off a central writing prompt, stories may have similar elements. They may also have similar elements to books already written, however we believe that the items included in the prompts may be unique enough that it would be difficult for someone to find one to fit the specific prompt.
Please show integrity and present your own work.
