I started writing this post a week ago... Let's see if I can finally get through this and publish it...
I originally had decided to not buy any more books for the moment. I bought my February TBR books and have still yet to read them. HA! I have managed to whittle my Goodreads Want To Read shelf down to under 900 books. I sorted every book on it into categories for my own sanity.
And then I went down a rabbit hole of online shopping again.
Amazon
I had previously put in a very large order in March, and naturally, it arrived in portions. I was still waiting for a package with 2 sets of silicone stamps. I was waiting for 2 months. I gave it that long because it was coming to Indiana from New Zealand. I was willing to give it time, but there is a limit to my patience.
So with a refund, what is a shopaholic to do? Buy more! I finally ordered some graphite transfer paper rolls, one in graphite and one in white, a transfer tape roll for vinyl, and some Sizzix plates for the dies I can’t use efficiently without the plates. But that’s crafty stuff, not the book stuff you’re here for.
Abe Books
Back in college, which wasn’t as long ago as it was for others my age, I wanted some resource material for my humanities classes other than what the college was providing. Since I was an online student in another state, I couldn’t exactly walk into my campus library. I found what I wanted at Abe Books.
So this weekend I ordered used copies of a YA fantasy duology that I had previously read from my library. I wanted to read them again, but one of the books is no longer within the network. It was either not returned or it became so damaged they can no longer circulate it. It is also not a popular book, so they will not replace it.
The duology is called Oathbreaker by J.B. Redmond and S.R. Vaught. Book 1 is titled Assassin’s Apprentice and Book 2 is titled A Prince Among Killers. Everybody on BookTube talks about Assassin’s Apprentice, but they are definitely not talking about this one. I want to read these again and use it as one of my debut videos when I start filming my own channel. I already have a video title picked out. "Not the Assassin's Apprentice You Were Looking For" or something like that.
Book Depository
So... I have watched the cartoon movie versions of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Very classic animation there. I somehow own multiple DVD and Bluray copies of the live action movies from the early aughts. But I'll let you in on a little secret. I've never read them. Such a bad fantasy loving book nerd, I know.
I ordered this version of The Hobbit and its cover matching versions of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, along with Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. Might as well have the whole collection matching. And yes, I opted to not go with hardcover or leather-bound. I really liked these covers.
Archer & Olive and Notebook Therapy
I also was a very bad girl with my notebook shopping. I did NOT need more bullet journals. I really didn't. But I did.
From Archer & Olive, I picked up two of their constellation zodiac notebooks in A5, Aries and Scorpio and also a Traveler's sized North Star. I've tried to get my son into bullet journaling to combat his ADHD, but we'll see how far that goes. The Scorpio book is for him. Worst case scenario, I have plenty of other Scorpios in my life who might like it. I initially had an idea for the North Star one, but I haven't the foggiest memory of what that was, and well, I'm obsessed with being Aries, so I had to have that one on those grounds alone.
From Notebook Therapy, I've had my eye on the Limited Edition Torii notebook for a while, but it was always out of stock. When it came back in, and in my preferred B5 size, in the cart it went. They also just released their new Ocean Collection. I'd seen Plant Based Bride showcase the previous release of Gentle Giant with a blue whale on the cover.
I don't really vibe with whales, but oooh! Look at that Dolphin Days Limited Edition! And of course, Playful Orca! Duh. And have to get that matching washi tape collection.
Deliveries: A Week Later Wrap-up
So the Abebooks order already came and I opened that up because I couldn't wait. They were shipped to me from a company who sells via Abebooks called Bayside Books for less than $10 total.
Amazon also was already delivered and the supplies tucked into their respective places in my craft area.
I have received some of the Book Depository order, but I am waiting to crack those open to hopefully film that.
Last, the BuJos are on their way and I'm super stoked about that.
Upcoming Content
So upcoming, I'm hoping to start a small little channel, still fleshing out how that is going to look and function. In addition, I finished The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty and have taken time to unpack how it made me feel. Just have to put my CAWPILE rating to it, type it up and publish it. So keep an eye out for that spoiler-free review. I'm also pretty happy that I felt comfortable recommending it to someone else and even let her borrow the book. I've never had a group of people in my life who like reading as much as I do or like the same things I do, so this was really nice.
Still chopping away through The Cat Who Saw Red and boy is it a slog. I'm not sure if I'm just so jarred by the writing style and how it changed so much from Braun's earlier series books, or maybe it's just the story that I find irritating. I really liked the last one that took place in Junktown with the eccentric junk town store owners. I honestly don't remember the first 2 books in the series, it's been so long. I'll get through this one, read the fifth book and reassess if I want to continue.
I'm staring down the end of May and realizing that my May TBR is not going to be completed. I didn't pick up a replacement India book, didn't read my 50 state book, nor did I pick up a different Middle Grade. This year is just not working out like I had planned, but that's okay. The point is that I'm learning other bookish things and still growing as a reader.
I think that ought to be it for now. Until next time...
