Review: A Spindle Splintered

A Spindle Splintered A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm really hoping that Zinnia gets to go on loads more adventures and we're along for the ride. A medical death sentence, an obsession with the Sleeping Beauty tale, being able to be open and honest about just how mucked up the original tales actually were, what is not to love about this?? Also, the fact that it's a novella should not detract or make people shy away. Making this story a full fledged novel would have been stretching it. Making it a short story would have been a grave disservice to Zinnia's tale.

Also, if any of your reading prompts (if you do those sorts of things like I insanely do), this has the potential to fit under so many themes, but the one that is hardest to accomplish for working folks who can only handle audiobooks? Read in one sitting. This one is perfect for a Saturday afternoon while you're doing meal prep, or weeding the garden. Or if you have a large yard like I do, mowing the grass. Or, if it's the middle of winter... While you're deep cleaning the house on a manic spree. Just if you need some ideas for how to spend 3 hours reading and doing something else at the same time.

Converting Average Scores/Ratings Into Star Ratings

After 6 books this first month of the year, I'm quite surprised that the short novella and series starter A Spindle Splintered has turned out to be the best I rated thus far. But this whole endeavour is done as scientifically as possible on such a subjective topic. With the CAWPILE rating system... 8.91 is the highest average rating thus far. It's a 4 1/2 star read, but we all know Goodreads doesn't allow half star ratings.

My spreadsheet includes 10 columns to help me with this. The 7 columns for the 7 categories are added up and divided by 7 in the 8th column. The 9th column assigns a half star rating to each range of the ratings. The 10th column adjusts those rating ranges so that a low half star rating is rounded down and a high half star rating is rounded up.

Review at Goodreads

ALL THE TRIGGER WARNINGS. Again, not on my review. On the book itself. I'm debating if I want to watch the movie. I'm somehow reading a lot of books that were adapted, or are getting adapted to screen lately.

First 5 star review of the year, despite triggering me with all the narcissistic abuse and neglect.

Edit: My spreadsheet was busted. After I fixed it, tchnically The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the first book of the year, was my first 5 star review. Whoops.

Goodreads Unlinked My Blog, New Tracker, "Booking" Right Along

Somewhere along the way in the last couple months, in the move and as I focused on things other than the blog, Goodreads and this blog were unlinked. OOPS
